We first crossed paths with Shari Krell at the recommendation of our school’s learning development coordinator, as our son (then in 1st grade) was testing behind in both reading and verbalizing his thoughts.  We’ve maintained a consistent tutoring schedule with Ms. Krell now for over six years, utilizing Zoom meetings during COVID to continue the progress being made. Our son’s confidence and testing scores in ELA have substantially improved, and our son now consistently votes ELA as one of his favorite subjects at school.  Shari’s ability to teach the fundamentals of reading and writing while keeping the learning sessions engaging and enjoyable is  real skill……e.g our son has never objected to going to tutoring.  We’re grateful for the additional support and focused learning time that Shari has provided him, especially given that our son’s primary interest (at this juncture in his life) is sport and not reading.  - Brent G.

"I had the pleasure of partnering with Shari to teach neurodivergent teens on multiple occasions. She truly impressed me with her expertise, thoughtfulness, and wisdom. She's able to quickly and skillfully engage with teens from a wide variety of ages and backgrounds to create a safe and stimulating environment. I would work with her again in a heartbeat." -Tony S.

What current and past clients have to say:

We love Shari and highly recommend her for kids with dyslexia! After working with Shari the last year, my son has gained much more confidence in reading and writing. Shari has seen my son grow so much in just a year. Shari is super supportive, kind, compassionate and works so well with kids. Honestly, she’s more than just a tutor; Shari is also a great support system for us. There should be more tutors like Shari around! She really is the best!” - Sasshua K

We have been with Shari and UpWord Speech for over two years and her support has changed our lives! We were referred to her when my son just turned 6 and I was very concerned with his academic development, he was not able to recite the ABCs and had no phonemic awareness, he was just completely unprepared for the first first grade and very behind his peers. Shari worked with my son in creative ways that engaged him and helped him learn. She understood his challenges and was able to guide him in unique ways to make learning possible. He has taken the tools he learned from her and has been able to apply them to day-to-day in school and has blossomed into a confident 8 year old who can read and write! I believe this is due to the one on one support and the amazing way Shari was able to adapt her teaching style to each each individual. Her support and experience is the reason for our son’s success and for us as parents to have peace of mind that we have been able to get him the right assistance and person to bring out his potential, There is help out there! “ - Kristina C.
